Hidden gems...

Sometimes old is new and new is old.  What I'm talking about is vintage apparel.  This weekend, my holiday journey took me to a quaint old house on Long Island owned by my boyfriend's grandmother who passed not too long ago.  What started as a trip to stage the house for a sale quickly turned into a vintage gold mine!  Not only did we find old knives with intricate designs and darling glass bottles for oil & vinegar but we also soon discovered garment bags filled with gorgeous pea coats in red and white and a neutral coat trimmed in fur.

To my surprise, there was animal print pieces as well including a zebra-inspired sweater.  With permission, I was allowed to take these pieces into my possession and with this I learned a valuable lesson.  Though some would sprint right to the nearest consignment shop to sell old items, I found that adopting these items and restoring them to cherish yourself sometimes is the better way to go.  Passing down generations of style recycles the trend and carries on the memory of a once-was fashionista.  I am honored to now own some of the items shown here (others will obviously be shared with family members).  The next time you have the opportunity to go through old apparel, you might just find some of them to be hidden gems just waiting to be worn, once again.

Photos were taken at Argyle Park in Babylon on Long Island, New York.

K is for Kurls...

So love her or hate her, no one could deny those luscious curls that Kim Kardashian so effortlessly pulls off.  But don't put her curls on a pedestal just yet.  Video beauty blogger Deanna O'Hanna shows you how to get the same locks with a Bellezza 1 inch wand which you can find at Amazon.com or a similar wand by ISO Beauty at Target.

It's easy, it's quick, and all you need is the curling iron & some hair spray.

Enjoy !

My love for Lou...

What is it about the red sole that screams couture? What is it about them that makes every woman desperately break their bank accounts to have just one pair or if you're a celeb like Victoria Beckham, multiple pairs? It must have been written somewhere in  fashion law that Christian Louboutins are a must-have for all fashionistas.
It was a dream of mine ever since I saw that little peep of red poking out of the corner of a photograph in a magazine.  I don't even remember who was wearing them or what they were up  to.  That's because for that split second all I cared about was how I would one day slide my Cinderella feet into a pair just like her.  In fact, I dreamt about these shoes so much that one day I got up the courage to purchase them.  Yes, me.  Little fashion blogger with an undying love for red soles took my credit card and did the dirty deed. And I didn't regret it.
I was a kid on Christmas when they arrived --packaged so perfectly with a velvet red pouch that had the the signature of none other than Christian Louboutin. P.S. My Loubis  are the mini peep-toe pumps. But they come in every style. Heels, boots, booties, pumps, wedding shoes, leopard print, gold, blue, red and ones with spikes.

Every couture woman should own a pair.

Oversizing in fur...

Today I wore an oversized brown fur vest from Nich Shop.  And it appears that the bigger, the better.  As I did my research, I found that what is most popular for fall and winter is a VERY oversized fur vest that can drop as low as the knee.  Kim Kardashian was spotted wearing a Jahanaara oversized fur vest on Oct. 27 in Los Angeles paired with Citizens of Humanity jeans and tan suede boots.

The Jahanaara vest is $1605 but Michael Kors has a similar look for $104.

The look was seen last year in Chanel's Fall 2010 collection often worn by celebs like Kate Moss.  For 2011, it has taken off and is now super affordable. Not to mention extremely warm and comfortable.

One celebrity stylist gone designer who's making a name for herself in the oversized fur category is Rachel Zoe.  Her fabulous collection of faux fur EVERYTHING has been doing really well on QVC because of it's couture look for less (under $200). This season, go big with fur.
